A bit about me:
I like to make things. I've always been interested in figuring out how things work, and how to make them easier to use. That's why I love solving problems through design. I believe it's important to make things that people can use, and I believe it's important to make them beautiful, with craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Other interests include: books, music, woodworking, backpacking, coffee, vintage motorcycles, rock climbing, fly fishing, my wife Mackenzie, my son Judson, and my daughter Olive.
A bit about my background:
I graduated from design school in 2008. After that I worked at an agency doing Flash work for a while, then spent a little bit of time at a small software startup doing design, front-end development, video, print, etc. before landing at the Fortune 100 hardware giant, Lowe's where I was an Interaction Designer for 3 years. I had a brief stint at TIAA-CREF, working as a visual designer on the newly started UX team, designing experiences for a broad range of users, including pension participants, call center operators, internal business clients, and executive staff.
Most recently, I've been working as an Information Architect at Ally Financial on the UX team, supporting auto, investing, and insurance lines of business.
At Ally I spend my downtime creating tools for the team to use to improve workflow, so that we can work smarter and more efficiently. I spent some time compiling working components for use in prototypes for the information architecture team, I've spent time researching and championing collaboration software, and helped to develop and compile a department style guide.
January 2014 — Present
Worked with auto financing, investing, and insurance lines of business to develop cutting edge solutions for the auto financing branch of Ally's business, and helped introduce workflows and tools to facilitate migration of the Ally website to a responsive framework, and helped establish brand guidelines and a component pattern library.
April 2013 — December 2013
Worked with the TIAA-CREF creative services team to supply user experience expertise to both internal and external clients including investment banking, pension management, call center operator tools, and financial advisor tools.
Lowe's Home Improvement

Worked with the Lowe’s.com team on homepage campaign design, MyLowe's initiatives, and concept teams to provide visual design direction as well as general interaction guidelines, develop a styleguide, architect page structures and relationships, and brainstorm concepts to improve user experience throughout the site.

Worked with a team of software developers to craft an intuitive user interface for a program used by automotive dealerships. Helped shape the company’s brand and visual presence to reposition its product and gain nation-wide recognition in the automotive industry.
